A rare kidney disease that primarily affects people of Japanese or Chinese descent. It is characterized by PROTEINURIA, progressive kidney failure, and distinctive LIPOPROTEIN thrombi in glomerular capillaries. Mutations in the APOE gene have been identified. OMIM: 611771
