Scope Note
A highly error-prone DNA polymerase. It is a member of the Y-family of DNA polymerases that are DNA DAMAGE tolerant and involved in TRANSLESION DNA SYNTHESIS. DNA polymerase iota is an orthologue of yeast Rad30. Its replication fidelity is template dependent and favors Hoogsteen base-pairing at its active site.
